Ruth E. Thaler-Carter (ruth@writerruth.com)

She specializes in profile, feature
and news articles for magazines and newsletters;
all aspects of newsletters
(planning, interviewing, writing, editing, scanning, layout,
final production);
annual reports; and more,
for associations, not-for-profits,
businesses and independent publications.
A native of Rochester, NY, Ruth
studied comparative literature at Indiana University-Bloomington
and French at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL); was
a Ford Fellow in the University of Missouri-Columbia's graduate
program in journalism; and wrapped up her BA from UMSL in 2000,
at age 47. She started writing for pay while still in high school;
freelanced from 1974-1985 while holding fulltime communications
positions with the Urban League of St. Louis, St. Louis Argus
newspaper, R&D Mexico magazine, American National Metric
Council and (Washington) DC General Hospital; and became a fulltime
freelance writer and editor in 1985.
Ruth has been published locally,
regionally and nationally in magazines, newspapers and newsletters,
as well as online. She has won awards
for her writing, editing and freelance professionalism from the
International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) - DC
Chapter and Region 3, APEX, Editor's Forum and Washington
Independent Writers (WIW).
